3 Pom Pom DIYs to Try

Have you noticed the sudden surge in pom-poms lately? I’ve seen the trend turning up on purses, jewelry, hair accessories, and fashion for some time now, and figured it high time I share a few DIY’s to get the look for a whole lot less.

Let me start off by saying that styling yourself with pom-poms may solicit some side-eyes from passers-by, so you have to be comfortable with the fact that, if you sport any of the DIY’s below, it will appear like you were accessorized by a kindergartner. The trick is to own it.

The best part about all three of these pom-pom projects is that they are super quick to throw together and require hardly any supplies or prep. So grab a bag of pom-poms and let’s get to it!

Pom-Pom Earrings

I think these are just about the cutest earrings ever! To make, simply thread two poms (one large, one small) with a knotted thread, then loop and the tie the thread through the base loop of a basic hook earring (you can buy a pack of these in the jewelry-making section of your local craft store.) Cut off the access thread and that’s literally all there is to it. These would look super darling when worn with just a plain t-shirt and jeans – Pom-pom earrings have the power to add panache to the simplest of outfits!

Pom-Pom Purse Caddy

The idea for this cute purse addition came from these darling sidekick bags from ban.do. I want one so much, but I am doing my best to save right now, and until I have some extra dough to go on a ban.do bag bonanza, I figured this little DIY would tide me over.

Spruce up one of your old purses by adding just a dash of pom-poms. Pick two poms (I opted for different colors) and grab some complimentary embroidery thread. Run the thread through the eye of a needle and knot the ends so you’ve essentially doubled the thickness of the thread. Thread through one pom and pull to the end. Leave a bit of thread (however long you want the pom to fall) then thread through the other pom, knot, and cut the extra thread.

Loop your poms through the hardware of your favorite purse and presto – Instant cuteness at a fraction of the price!

Pom-Pom Embellished Flip-flops

My final DIY gives a fuzzy update to the most basic of cheap flip-flops. Just a few dabs of hot glue and it’s done!

There are actually so many more pom-pom project possibilities, but we’ll save those for another post. As far as fun and affordable craft embellishments go, the pom pretty much takes the cake!
