Current Sounds: Haim at The Roxy

Last week, I went to Nylon Magazine’s Music Issue kick off party at the Roxy in West Hollywood with Brittany.  In honor of Haim gracing the cover of the June/July issue, the band was there as the leading act, and even though they played a rather short set, they were pretty awesome.  It was amazing to see them in such an intimate setting.  There is something about them that I find fascinating (maybe it’s that they are fellow SoCal girls from the valley like myself.)  They are like the Lisbon sisters, without the depression or crazy parents.  They have major musical chops, a charming 1970’s inspired style, and they also just seem like a lot of fun.

The festivities included less-than-adequate nail art stations (I got a palm tree) and somewhat creepy openers Denita and Sene.  To be fair, the music was decent, but the dude’s stage presence was obnoxious.  All in all, not a bad way to spend my Memorial Day.
