When the sky turns pink and the world looks rosy…

By Heather Toner

While most of the country is freezing and snowed in, here on the west coast we’re battling a dry spell that ultimately results in fires.  The Santa Ana winds kick up their feet and go galloping across the coast, adding fuel to the flames already feasting on the bone-dry brush on the hills.  It’s not a good thing.  But it’s something that comes around, year after year.  An inevitable consequence of residing in a desert climate.
When this disastrous occurrence occurs, the sky gets all orange and pink and rosy.  It looks like the end of the world, and yet, strangely beautiful…

My best wishes go out to the families and firefighters who had to do battle with our latest brush fires.
